BBB SAND - Grain size 1-1.5mm

This is our own special mix that is perfect to promote root development and plant growth as it contains nutrients your plants thrive on.

It is dark in color to bring out the color in your fish as well as reduce stress that colored gravel may cause.  It is small in grain to allow the tiniest of roots to spread, but still larger than sand which allows you to siphon.

Most hobbyists agree that BBB is better than other commercial brands of "plant" gravel and based on how much I have to mix.....it must be good!  So try a box today, and enjoy the look of your planted tank!

Everyone wants to know how much should they buy.  First off, I ship in 25# boxes because I can fit it into a flat rate priority box and ship it far below what other retailers will.

So, I like a depth of three inches because some plants want to pull out of anything shallower or are hard to plant in the first place.

25 pounds will do an approximate area of 12" x 18" at a depth of 3".  So lets say your footprint was 12 x 36 which is close to a 30 gallon tank, you would want 50 pounds or 2 boxes of BBB. 

So, based on your foot print, you can manipulate 12x18 anyway to help figure out how much.  Let's say your footprint was 24 x 48.  We are working with 12x18 which is the same as 24x9. So we now know that we can do a 9" strip of BBB in a 24" wide tank. Then we need to know how many 9" strips will fit in a 48" tank 48 / 9 is a little over 5 boxes, so the answer is 5 boxes or 125 lbs. of BBB to get a consistent depth of 3".
